When it comes to educational curriculum, it doesn't. Just as each of us is created unique, with differing DNA and immune systems, so is one child's learning style different from another's- even in the same family! Some children learn auditorily, others, visually and still others need a multi-faceted approach with more individualized attention such as tutoring to incorporate concepts. Special education does not fit, example Thomas Edison, who invented the light bulb, was expelled from the school system. Horace Mann advocated for public education based on the German system: peer group oriented and the origination of school boards dominated by the state government.
Our public education system cannot meet every child's needs with a "boxed=canned" curriculum that amounts to indoctrination, not education. Devoid of addressing the spiritual needs of humanity- faith, hope and love, which foster character development, children are led down the path of physical gratification, particularly the gratification of the teacher handing out the grades.. Education is to be based on Reading, Writing and Arithmetic, Citizenship (encompasses true History) and observable Science. Work on common sense. The school should follow the family structure, since it is an extension of it during the parents working day. Also, a school board must not abrogate the parents' authority, since their taxes (whether directly or indirectly) are paying for the education of the students/ their children. Solution: The parents have the right to choose and use their tax $$ at the school which the parent(s) deem best fits their child(ren). The next paragraph deals with parent & school solutions...
Academic counselors, Social workers and Chaplains can offer helps in their respective domains when issues arise. An on-site First Aid nurse (not a clinic) is sufficient for physical accidents, etc.. Board: use education dollars wisely. Parents: keep the board on a budget and ask to see the school administration's fiscal statement. Remember: Transparency and fiscal responsibility produce trust. The school's academic scores will rise when parents have monetary freedom to choose the educational path for their child(ren). when the system they are in does not "fit." Thirty (30) other states have proven "school choice" improves the public school system.
